All Star Program

Temecula Valley Girls Softball Association All Star program is a competitive program and separate from our recreational and select programs. TVGSA recreational season is about instruction, learning the rules of the game, opportunities for every girl to play multiple positions and have fun. All Stars is about developing advanced skills, competing against the top teams in our area and instilling a winning attitude. Some players thrive in this environment, while other players (and their parents) do not. While select and All Stars are similar in their competitive nature, they are separate teams. All players will have the same opportunity for All Stars regardless of whether they played on a select team or not.

Time Commitment

All-Star play is a serious family Commitment. It requires full availability for weeknight practices plus tournament play.

Practice will be mandatory. Teams may practice 2-3 hours M-F starting the week of May 4th.

Tournaments are mandatory. Tournaments will run every weekend starting in the middle of May and until the end of June. All teams will attend a district tournament with the possibility of advancing to State (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U) and Regional(8U) or National (10U, 12U, 14U) tournaments which would mean the commitment could run through August.

Playing Time

Each All-Star team will consist of no more than 12 Players, and playing time is the sole discretion of the All-Star Manager. The essential rules from regular playing season such as equal playing time and batting do not apply during the All-Star season. The Manager/Coaches will play the All-Satr players where they feel is the best for the team. In some cases, the manager may only select to bat nine (9) players, use the DP Flex rule, or bat the whole team. It is up to the All-Star Manager/Coaches and Tournament rules, as to how to manage the team. There is the possibility that your player/daughter will not play but an inning or two throughout the All-Star season. While we hope this does not happened, please Note that the Executive Board does not control this matter, as it is at the sole discretion of the All-Star Manager to make all necessary playing decisions.

Select Program

The Select program was developed to allow high-performing girls to practice and/or play games together, once a week during the recreational season. If your daughter will be registered to play in the upcoming 2025 Spring season, she is eligible to tryout for Select. Our Select Program is self-funded and participation on the 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U select teams require an additional cost between $150-$200. If you are interested in being considered for our Select Program, you can sign up during registration for each recreational season.  You can also submit your intent to assess for Select, by e-mail to our Player Agent playeragent@tvgsa.org Select events are in addition to the regular season program. Assessments for the Select program will be done the same day as Rec Assessments. Initial fees are due upon acceptance on the final team rosters.

WHAT IS "SELECT"?
“Select” is a program developed by USA Softball designed to allow high-performing girls to practice and/or play games together, once a week, prior to/and during the recreational season.

USA SOFTBALL SELECT RULES

Select team programs come with some stringent rules imposed by USA Softball. To be eligible for key seasons like the summer all-stars, it's important to understand all the rules and restrictions. USA Softball has implemented guidelines for all leagues to follow regarding the creation and running of select teams. This information is outlined in the 2024 USA Softball of Southern California Rules & Regulations

If chosen to join a select team, it will be in addition to your daughter's respective recreational commitment during the spring season. Currently, select teams are available for 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U player divisions. Spring Select activities may be in effect from January 1st - April 7th.  Fall Select activities may be in effect from September 1st - December 31st.   To be considered for select team participation, players and parents must commit to the requirements outlined below:

  • Select teams require an additional 1-2 days of practice or game(s) per week. The additional day of play will usually be on Sundays.
  • A select team may not have more than four travel ball players on a team.
  • A player must participate in no less than 75% of her recreational games to maintain eligibility for the select program.
  • Participation in the select program DOES NOT GUARANTEE your daughter will be selected and/or play on an all-star team.  Additional costs, beyond the initial Select fee, may be incurred with this player commitment.
  • Select players may play in tournaments and friendlies outside of Riverside County.

SELECT ROSTER PROCESS

Players who wish to be on a select team MUST register for Spring 2025 and participate in the Select Assessments in conjunction with our Recreational Assessments. Per TVGSA rules, (if approved) a player may play in a higher division during the recreational season, but must play in their league age division for Select or All-Stars. If a player is unable to attend assessments, but would still like to be considered for Select, you must submit and email to our Player Agent, Select/All-Star Coordinator or E-Board explaining or indicating that they are not able to assess, but are interested in trying out for the Select team.  Players must be registered or be on the waiting list prior to conducting any assessments and be eligible for a Select team.

Upon conclusion of assessments, the board approved manager(s) will choose the select teams for each age division. Skill level, attitude, the potential to improve as well as the coachability of a player are taking into consideration.

The Board of Directors must ratify the select team rosters that are approved by the coaches. The board must also ratify the coaches. NO ONE MAY ALTER the final rosters without prior Board of Director approval. The roster limit must meet the USA Softball guidelines.

Being chosen for a select team does not guarantee a spot on any all-star team for any player. Select managers will not necessarily be all-star managers.

MANAGING EXPECTATIONS

Select teams are not for everyone. The formation of this program is to teach, demonstrate, and practice the higher-level strategies and situations of the game.

Since our foundational mission as an association is developing young athletes, we believe in providing an opportunity and the fair assessment for all to show what they can do on the field. If your daughter is committed and willing to work hard while sacrificing early Sunday mornings and/or afternoons, she will be considered to develop and hone her player skills as a Select player.

If you have any additional questions about the Select Program, please contact allstarcoordinator@tvgsa.org or playeragent@tvgsa.org.
